The 2025 German Film Music Award for Best Film Music goes to Reinhard Besser & Walter Mair

On 8 November, the German Film Music Award 2025 was presented at the Opera House in Halle. In the category “Best Music in Film,” Reinhard Besser and Walter Mair were honored for their score for “Cranko” (2024).

In his laudatory speech, jury member Peter W. Schmitt stated that “they have not only enriched a great film, they have also defended a piece of our musical culture – with sound, with heart, and with courage.”

Besser has worked with artists and bands such as Boney M., NSYNC, and No Angels, and composes music for advertising and films including “The Lair” (2022). Walter Mair is known for his work on projects such as “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III” (2023).

The two composers previously collaborated on the score for “Mackie Messer – Brecht’s Threepenny Film” (2018).
